Formulating your vision to get your focus clear, because how are you going to achieve your goals if you don't have your direction clearly in sight? That turns out to be a challenge for many. What do you really want? The options and choices are vast, but where are you going to focus? What is your mission, vision and strategy to make that happen in life? And then it turns out that it is easier to know what you do not want (comes from your experiences), than to know what you do want (comes from your imagination).
But how do you find out what you do want? Precisely by writing down what you don't want. I call it drafting your anti-vision.
Your anti-vision: what don't you want?
What don't you want = your anti-vision = based on your experience(s)
What do you want = your vision = based from your imagination and your vision of the future
How do you create anti-vision? Make a list of the things you don't want, things you don't like to do, and things that are negative and/or require too much energy from you. Also make a list of things you won't tolerate - an important basis for your conditions in both your life and business.
So create an anti-vision for your life, your business and your future.
- What don't you want to look like?
- How do you not want to feel?
- What does your worst day look like?
- What traits do you not want in your friends, clients, partner and colleagues?
- How much money is not enough to survive?
- How does all of the above spread into every area of your life and prevent you from doing what you want?
Focus on the things that matter to you. Such as your health, time, freedom, wealth, relationships, impact and happiness. A handy test that can help you with this is the positive health test. A test that I also present to my clients and that gives you insight into where you are now in the various areas of life and where you would like to be. Instant insight into the life areas you want to change and where you want to grow.
Identify solutions with your vision
You now have a plethora of problems to solve to gradually increase and maximize your value.
Pick one. Solve it. Move on to the next. Meaning is not found in achieving a goal, but in solving the endless series of problems that pull you deeper into the nature of reality. Your reality and the essence of your life.
We like to solve problems and hassles (or we ignore/avoid it, but we're past that stage here). To increase your desire to solve it, create your vision for your ideal life, your ambitions in your career/business and your future.
Take out your anti-vision list and write down the opposite of everything you have listed for your anti-vision.
Treat this as a minimally achievable vision. Because what you think is possible now is your own "dyke of right. You will add to it over time as you recognize that much more is possible if you open yourself up to it and want to develop and grow further. What you want will then change as you do so. Change to grow, both personally and professionally.
Change, learning and growth
You have chosen a problem you want to solve, that which you want to change in your life. This may have to do with your health, finance, time/freedom or anything else that keeps you from living the life you want.
Keep this problem in mind and focus on one big goal. To change this, you will need to invest your time and energy to adapt your behavior and actions to your new situation. You will develop it through conversations, coaching/mentoring, reading, listening and filtering reality until you accumulate enough "whys" to keep you accountable.
The is the only way to determine what to learn next is through the mistakes/failures and failed attempts. Use the mistakes and failures as a new insight and lesson to develop and grow.
Your new story
Start your new leadership position in your business and watch, accept how people criticize your first steps.
Make mistakes, experiment and learn. Invest in your new responsibilities as a leader and strengthen your position. And make your portfolio of failures your story. Because just like in a movie, people are more interested in lows than highs. So be open about your lessons learned and share your new story. You'll draw people and profits to you with it.
Because with your story, you spread value and other people (your clients, your team) can learn and grow from that.
Communication and presentation = how to spread value.
Spreading value = how you attract people.
If you don't attract people, you will never have anyone else in the value exchange process.
The combination of your potential, your passion and your values are crucial to your value proposition. And by continuously innovating, optimizing and evolving, they contribute to your value maximization and future growth of your own value, the value of your company and the value of your future.
