Leadership, innovation and strategy: 12 steps for sustainable growth.

From procrastination to DOING - The art of execution

The right actions at the right time for and by the right people

Hard truth: Good ideas are cheap, execution is golden.

Good ideas abound, but execution? That's where the greatest opportunity for success (and challenge 😊) lies.

Why does it seem like some people "effortlessly" make their dreams come true, while others get stuck in the endless planning phase? Or worse, procrastinate and thus get stuck in dreams?

The difference is not in the number of ideas, but rather in the ability to make powerful choices and take action.

But how do you select the best ideas and what really makes an impact?

It starts with creating a system to capture your ideas. If you let all your innovative ideas float around, you'll lose track. I used to make the same mistake: loose notes, emails to myself, and ideas in apps .... Chaos. What helped me? A fixed, smart system to collect and filter all my creative excesses and new ideas. I now use Notion To keep everything in one place.

Four strategies to 10x your execution and profitable actions:

In the quest for personal and professional growth, we often experience resistance, obstacles and mindf#cks that hold us back. As a result, we limit ourselves in our growth and developments.

To make sure that you do take action and start getting profitable results, here I give 4 profitable strategies that will get you to take action. That you are going to do the actions you need to do in that moment. How you can break through your own imposed barriers and make sure you are going to do the right actions in the right order at the right time.

1. The 30-30 Approach: Turn small steps into big successes

Achieve profitable success by taking a new step every step. Implement small changes by spending 30 minutes of your time every day on what you want to improve/adjust, and for 30 days. This is at least the time you need to create real change, to build a new habit, but not so long that it feels daunting. The secret is in the consistency of the actions you take, not the size.

After 30 days, you will have 900 minutes invested in yourself, and/or your business. This is almost three full working days of growth.

2. The Two-Day Rule: Give yourself space, but keep moving

Perfectionism, Imposter Syndrome or any form of procrastination is a silent saboteur of your own success. It makes you believe that everything must be right at once, and if that fails, it's better to do nothing at all. The ''Two-Day Rule' is simple but effective for carrying out your actions successfully: allow yourself to miss one day, but never two days in a row.

This is how you give yourself the space to be human, to have a bad day once in a while without feeling guilty or losing motivation. Allow yourself to make mistakes and start seeing your failed attempts as new insights and lessons.

The Two Day Rule is not only a strategy against procrastination, but also to be kinder and gentler to yourself. By giving yourself room to fail, you learn that growth comes from persistence, not perfection.

3. habit stacking: Make new routines part of your day

This principle comes from the book Atomic Habits by James Clear, where he uses the power of association: you pair a new habit with an existing, already standard routine. This makes it easier to stay consistent and make new habits a regular part of your day, without taking extra effort, willpower or time.

Take a habit you already do automatically, such as brushing your teeth, making coffee, or starting your computer, and pair a new habit with it that you want to develop. For example, consider doing stability or gluteal exercises while brushing your teeth, or reading an inspirational book during your daily cup of coffee. By linking the new habit directly to a standard daily action, it becomes a natural extension of something you already do daily.

So here again the compound effect occurs. The power of stacking. Through which you will achieve more over time.

4. Minimum achievable progress: every step counts

Many people get stuck in a mental trap of all-or-nothing thinking. For example, if you can't exercise for a full 30 minutes, you might as well skip it altogether. Or if you can't give that perfect presentation right away, you might as well wait and procrastinate. This mindset leads to stagnation, frustration and sometimes even giving up on your worthwhile goals.

By starting to recognize and celebrate your minimally achievable progress now as a small victory, you break this destructive cycle. Each small victory, no matter how modest, gives you a dopamine boost that enhances your motivation and trains your brain to associate your done action with positive emotions. This in turn leads to more motivation and increases the likelihood that you will take action again next time.

And here again, the power of the compound effect applies. Because all these small steps eventually lead to big results. So long-term consistency is far more valuable than sporadic, large-scale efforts that are difficult to sustain.

It's about direction, not speed.

For example, if you have a goal of exercising 30 minutes daily but only achieve 10 minutes on a busy day, celebrate those 10 minutes instead of focusing on what you didn't achieve. This promotes a healthy mindset and strengthens your spring and muscle power.

If one day you can't reach your full goal, do what is possible, even if it is only five minutes or one action. Most importantly, make progress every day, no matter how small. This creates an upward spiral of motivation and growth.

Start today and look back weekly, monthly, annually and realize how much you have accomplished.

Which of the four strategies appeals most to you?

  1. What do you want to achieve?
  2. How will you apply the strategy with the right execution?
  3. Make a 30-day commitment to yourself.
  4. Track your progress and celebrate your victories and wins.

Because every step, no matter how small, brings you closer to your dreams.

One Life. Lead it. Live it.

Have a great week,

Gerdi
