But how do you tackle that? Because with only knowledge and expertise, you're not going to make it in a competitive market.

There is a shift going on in business and corporations. The way we want to live, fulfill our ambitions and be meaningful. And the Corona lockdowns have contributed greatly to this. Because we want things to be different. To combine our lives and work in a different way to have more direction our time and more freedom for other things. 

I have also been at that point. The turning point in my life. Where I made my career switch after my 20-year career in corporate business. Because I felt I was no longer in the right place in my life, nor in the company I was working in. And a change like that, of course you don't just make it. Because I had everything in place. Now, from the outside: good job, good salary and working conditions. I could do whatever I wanted, because I didn't have to worry about the money. But on the inside I was not happy. 

The need to change and do things differently was great. Because the situation was not only affecting my happiness, but also my own well-being and fulfillment. 

I radically changed course. That was my way of handling it. And not everyone can and will do that. And that's totally ok. But honestly, don't stay in a place or situation where you are not happy and fulfilled, where you are not seen for who you are, what you do and appreciated. 

Change to grow and with your value (read knowledge and expertise, but also your method/work and your energy) make a new step to make impact, be challenged again and grow. On a business and personal level.

Start small, fail fast to scale fast

If you are anything like me with a quick-thinking and strong brain, you overthink a lot and may overcomplicate things. Which is why we end up getting stuck or putting things off ... sometimes for years. 

Well knowing that you are not in the right place and would like to do things differently. But yes ... now you know what you have and you don't know what will take its place. So you keep ignoring your feelings and have come up with enough reasons why you shouldn't do it. After all, you don't just leave a good career behind, do you? And how will your colleagues and those close to you react to this? You've built a good reputation and image and then you become a consultant or a coach (or whatever title you attach to it, but your ego thinks something of it 😉 Recognizable?)

But honestly, you end up sacrificing time and energy here and it costs you more than you care about. Because it demands more of you than it gives you. In other words, actually you are impoverishing, you are sacrificing. You do things that you are not full of energy (anymore) and it comes at the cost of your freedom. And that's a shame, because your time and energy are precious. 

So,

Work on your (top sports) mentality and dare to follow your intuition. Don't stay in a place where you don't belong and stand strong in that place/position where you spend your time and energy on the things that matter. With a growth mindset, you no longer think in losses but in abundance. And you start winning and growing again on a personal and business level. 

Your knowledge and expertise: use your head and heart

I lived mostly in "the attic. That's what my psychologist so aptly called it when she helped me during my less fortunate period. I followed my head - my strong brain power prevailed. While I suppressed my feelings and did not dare (then) to trust them. I was living from the outside in and from my head.

I also made that shift and was able (and dared) to let go. As a result I started living from the inside out. I make my choices, I live and undertake on my feelings, my strong intuition and in combination with my brain power and growth mindset. Because anyway, my brain has also brought me a lot and it is also a valuable strength of mine.
